Widowed at 30 in 1871 before Classanr meets her. Nobody ever uses her first name. She runs an egg farm of indeterminate size and location, most likely near Ye Olde Blacksmith Shoppe & Liveree at the outskirts of town.
She has an original 1868 treadle powered Kimbal and Morton “Lion” sewing machine from Glasgow Scotland (much to the delight of Preacher, who is the only other Scottish item in town).
She hires one person to operate her sewing machine, usually women under the protective care of Laura the Librarian. Mostly they make heavy-duty work shirts and inexpensive sack dresses from Cramden’s used flour sacks that she trades for her hens’ eggs.
